Students take different paths. Some go into a technical field, others go for a trade or just to add on to their education.
Obtaining my associate's degree has been one of my goals this past year. Now that I am completing that and graduating in May, what should my next step be?
Taking that next step on the road of life can be scary. But I am ready. All I have to do is put one step in front of the other.
Life is full of challenges and roadblocks that we must face. But when we come face to face with challenges, we should hit them running.
Challenges we come upon shape individuals and allow us to mature. Life would be boring without a little speed bump.
A lot of students who come to Texarkana College still live at home.
There are those who come here that live in the dorms or apartments but many still live with their parents. For one reason it is cheaper -- you cannot go wrong with free rent and food.
I have started looking and thinking differently when I hear and see people from different walks of life.
College is not only here for us to get an education about what we want to do when we grow up but also to educate us about how we fit into society.
A lot of people say that going to TC a person does not have the full college experience.
I believe that it depends on what "experience" someone wants. I have had a full experience here at TC. No, I did not go out and party like some do, but I received an education and became a better person. Partying is not my way of having fun, although I know some cannot wait to go out on the weekend.
Then Monday rolls around and the research paper is due; did the fun you had on the weekend make up for the failing grade the professor is about to record?
Now it is time for many who are graduating to step out of their comfort zone and face new challenges. For me it is leaving East Texas, the comfort of home, my friends, family and going on to live my life.
Taking the next step for me is going to the next level of education. The next pit-stop in my road of life is obtaining my bachelor's degree at the University of Central Arkansas, in Conway. Going from a junior college to a four-year university is my next challenge
The fear of the unknown can be scary but so are horror movies. I choose not to watch horror movies or go to haunted houses; why put myself in unwanted torture? I choose not to be scared because I walk with confidence.
When I come across a speed bump I just think of a quote from Walt Disney that inspired the movie, "Meet the Robinsons."
"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."
After reaching goals, it’s time to leave comfort zone of home
